Property in Taunton
Taunton is Somerset’s county town, located in the east of the county not far from the M5 motorway which runs from Birmingham to Exeter. Taunton has excellent schools including Taunton School, Kings College, Queens College, Kings Hall and Castle School. The town is also famed for being home to Somerset County Cricket Club.
The town has a good range of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs and has several hospitals including Somerset’s major hospital, Musgrove Park to the east of the town centre.

Choosing where to live in Somerset
Across the county, there are many wonderful towns and villages to consider when choosing the best places to live in Somerset.
The historic market town of Frome has become increasingly popular in recent years, there has been regeneration whilst maintaining the period features that make it such a great place. The old centre is filled with 17th and 18th-century buildings, and up in the hills that surround the centre are large Victorian houses.
Not far from Frome, the small town of Bruton has also seen an uplift in demand by those who’d like to live here. Bruton has two independent schools, Bruton School for Girls and King’s Bruton, and a non-selective boarding state school, Sexey’s. Bruton has many period properties built around the River Brue that runs through the town. And there are more modern properties built between the 1960s-1990s on the fringes of the town.
Heading toward Yeovil from Frome is another small town, Castle Cary. Castle Cary is very pretty and its centre is filled with independent shops selling local produce. Castle Cary train station offers a direct service into London Paddington that takes just over an hour.
The cathedral city of Wells has retained its historic architecture, the town centre is a hive of activity with busy restaurants and pubs, as well as independent shops down the high street, and a regular market is held just behind the cathedral on Market Place. Wells also has good schools; almost 400-year-old The Blue School and the renowned independent Wells Cathedral School.
The neighbouring Somerset towns of Glastonbury and Street both offer period homes with thriving town centres. Famed for its sporting excellence, Millfield School campuses are spread between the two towns. Millfield Preparatory School is located on the edge of Glastonbury and Millfield Senior School is in Street.
