Living in the City…
London Home finder Nick Dawson shares his thoughts on why you might want to think twice about Canary Wharf.
Canary Wharf, not the place you’d first imagine someone living, if they mentioned in passing that ‘they lived in London’; but upon closer inspection you’d understand why. The docklands business district with internationally renowned addresses such as One Canada Square boasts some of the most cutting edge, spectacular architecture and cityscapes in the capital. It has the benefits of some highly acclaimed restaurants (Gordon Ramsay’s The Narrow and the gastro pub, The Gun), its own shopping mall, various healthclubs (Virgin etc.) and a sailing club at Millwall, Mudchutes Country Park (a real gem to discover) and all on the water’s edge. The properties are often converted warehouses, relics from the past like West India Quay or Burrells Wharf, Victorian terraces and cottages and some of the most stunning modern apartments and penthouses in the City (Pan Peninsula, Canary Riverside and West India Quay and Discovery Dock).
In addition, development and regeneration does not end there – Baltimore Wharf (by Ballymore) overlooking Millwall Dock; Streamlight (Swan New Homes) another development of 66 apartments (1, 2 & 3 beds) and Wood Wharf (the largest remaining single site of 20 acres which is due to be developed with a Tripartite agreement between Canary wharf, British Waterways and Ballymore).
It goes to show Canary Wharf is not just a place to work; it is a market in its own right and a fun, vibrant and exciting place to live too.
As a Home Finder these types of locations are shared with clients to help them consider locations they perhaps hadn’t thought about living before. Its always important to factor in the surrounding amenities and communication links a location has to offer. Canary Wharf has a lot more than first meets the eye and all part of using a good Home Finder is their high level of knowledge about the location and surrounding area.
