Where to live in the New Forest
Brockenhurst is a main hub in the New Forest with frequent trains running to London in around an hour and a half. A large village, Brockenhurst has a well-regarded primary school and tertiary college, Brockenhurst College, as well as many shops on Brookley Road, the Village High Street, and many places to eat locally.
Property in Brockenhurst ranges from pretty period cottages to more modern chalet-style properties, and around the outside of the village, there are larger country houses set within acres of their own land.
Nearby Lymington is a Georgian market town offering a comprehensive range of shops and restaurants. There is a weekly market along the high street which is popular with residents and visitors.
Lymington is known for its large marina and yacht clubs such as The Royal Lymington and Lymington Town Sailing Club. Ferry services from Lymington connect to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.
Within walking distance of the high street and marina, you can find secluded detached houses, usually hidden from view and tucked away down unassuming country lanes. Lymington has also seen newer developments in recent years adding modern properties in small clusters around the town.
This part of the New Forest in particular is one of England’s most favoured yachting locations and only a short sail across the Solent to the Isle Wight.
Not far from Lymington and Brockenhurst is the small village of Beaulieu, situated on the Beaulieu River it is one of the most picturesque places to live in the New Forest. Many of the residents here enjoy the use of a shared pontoon on the Beaulieu River, which is owned by The Beaulieu Estate. The village is mainly a collection of period cottages, some thatched, with larger secluded houses found at the end of long driveways.
The north of the New Forest tends to offer more peaceful, rural locations, and villages such as Bramshaw, Fritham, Frogham, and Minstead remain popular for those seeking a gentler pace of life.
